Stewed Apples Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • Apples Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Braeburn, peeled or unpeeled, cored and sliced
  • ¼ –½ cup water or apple juice
  • 2 –3 tablespoons sugar brown sugar, or honey (adjust to taste)
  • ½ –1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract optional
  • Pinch of nutmeg or cloves optional
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions
 

  • Peel, core, and slice apples evenly
  • Place apples in a saucepan and add water or apple juice, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and salt
  • Stir gently to coat apples
  • Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat
  • Reduce heat to low, cover partially, and cook 15–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender
  • Stir in vanilla extract or additional spices if using
  • Taste and adjust sweetness or spice as needed
  • Serve chunky, soft, or mashed/applesauce-style according to preference

Notes

Mix apple varieties for both flavor and texture
Simmer gently to avoid burning or breaking apart apples
Adjust liquid to achieve desired consistency
Can be used as a topping for breakfast, dessert, or in savory dishes
Reheats well on stovetop or in short microwave intervals
Freezes well for up to 3 months in airtight containers
