Ingredients
  

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Optional Add-Ins
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • A sprinkle of flaky sea salt before baking
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract for elegance

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  • In another bowl, beat softened butter with both sugars for 2–3 minutes until fluffy.
  • Add egg and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  • Gradually stir in dry ingredients until just combined — don’t overmix.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized dough balls, place 2 inches apart on trays, and flatten tops slightly.
  • Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges turn golden and centers are still soft.
  • Cool on tray for a few minutes, then transfer to a rack to firm up.

Notes

  • Always use real softened butter — not melted.
  • Brown sugar adds moisture and caramel flavor.
  • For crunchier cookies, chill dough 20 minutes before baking.
  • Sprinkle coarse sugar or sea salt before baking for a fancy touch.
