Ruth’s Chris Sweet Potato Casserole

Ingredients
  

  • Sweet Potato Base
  • 3 cups mashed sweet potatoes from 3–4 large sweet potatoes
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • Pecan Topping
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • cup all-purpose flour
  • cup unsalted butter melted
  • Optional Add-Ins
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • Splash of heavy cream
  • Marshmallows under or over topping

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake or boil sweet potatoes until tender; scoop and mash until smooth.
  • Combine mashed sweet potatoes with sugar, salt, vanilla, eggs, and melted butter.
  • Spread the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Mix pecans, brown sugar, flour, and melted butter to form a crumbly topping.
  • Sprinkle topping evenly over the sweet potato layer.
  • Bake 25–30 minutes until topping is crisp and golden.
  • Let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Freshly baked sweet potatoes give the best natural sweetness.
Dark brown sugar adds deeper caramel flavor.
Resting helps the casserole set and improves texture.
For nut-free, use an oat streusel topping.
