  • 1 lb 450 g ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • For the Gravy
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ½ tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • For Serving
  • 2 –3 cups cooked white rice
  • 2 –4 fried eggs
  • Sliced green onions optional

Instructions

  • Mix ground beef, onion, garlic, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, egg, and breadcrumbs just until combined.
  • Shape the mixture into 4 patties.
  • Cook the patties in a skillet over medium heat for 4–5 minutes per side, then remove and set aside.
  • Melt the butter in the same skillet.
  • Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute until lightly golden.
  • Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking to prevent lumps.
  • Stir in soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, then simmer 4–6 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  • Season the gravy with salt and pepper.
  • Fry the eggs sunny-side-up or over-easy.
  • Scoop rice onto plates, place a patty on top, pour gravy over it, and finish with a fried egg.
  • Add sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

Avoid overmixing the beef to keep patties tender.
80/20 beef gives the juiciest results.
Simmer the gravy gently—if too thick, add a splash of broth.
Eggs are best cooked last so the yolk stays warm and runny.
