Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 large yellow onions thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices provolone or Swiss cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns toasted

Instructions

  • Melt butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add sliced onions and cook slowly for 15–20 minutes until golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Stir in minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Stir and simmer for 5–7 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens.
  • Spoon the beef mixture onto toasted buns, top with a slice of cheese, and let it melt before serving.

Notes

Don’t rush the onions — slow cooking builds deep flavor.
Toast the buns to keep them from getting soggy.
For extra richness, add shredded Gruyère before melting.
Substitutions & Variations:
Ground turkey for a lighter option.
Add mushrooms for a savory twist.
Cheese swap: Try mozzarella, Gruyère, or white cheddar.
