Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs or oregano + basil
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella for milder flavor
  • 1 ¼ cups buttermilk or 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp vinegar as substitute
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter plus extra for brushing
  • 2 cloves garlic minced (optional for extra punch)
  • Substitutes & Options
  • Dairy-free: plant-based milk with vinegar + vegan cheese
  • Parmesan instead of cheddar for a sharper flavor
  • Fresh herbs rosemary, parsley for brightness
  • Gluten-free: use an all-purpose gluten-free flour blend

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the Oven
  • Heat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease or line a loaf pan.
  • Mix the Dry Ingredients
  • Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, garlic powder, and herbs.
  • Add Cheese & Garlic
  • Stir in shredded cheese and minced garlic.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients
  • In another bowl, whisk buttermilk and melted butter.
  • Form the Dough
  • Pour wet into dry. Stir gently until just combined (do not overmix).
  • Bake
  • Transfer batter to loaf pan, smooth top, brush with melted butter. Bake 35–40 minutes until golden and toothpick comes out clean.
  • Finish with Flavor
  • Brush hot loaf with garlic-herb butter. Cool slightly before slicing.
